Hurricane Irene Update

Greetings from wet and wind blown Shine Landing,

It has been a rough couple of days. Hurricane Irene came to shore right around Cape lookout. It started around late after noon Friday. and continued till Saturday night. The majority of the residents went  to Raleigh.

For the night and some for 2 nights. I came back Saturday night and Pamlico co. was very hard hit. Oriental is in very poor condition.

Shine landing faired pretty good. My understanding is that we had about 10-12 inches of rain, wind gust up to 90 mph and a water surge of about 11 ft, the water was up to the Janero bridge. The water in    the community was up to the road. Most of the houses did ok, there were 2 houses that had water in their garage, and none of the houses had any damage to their house. The clubhouse is a different story, it got about 4' of water in the basement. We do not have any electric and it will probably be a couple of days. Most of the boats were pulled, and that was a good thing, they were all ok. We are in the process of drying it out and have been in contact with the insurance co. All of our piers are ok. They are very overrun with stuff, from mattresses to pine cones. Most of the water front lots have major problems with this build up with this over wash. There are a number of trees down; we have our landscape company helping us. If there is a tree that came down on your property we will notify you, and you will be responsible for the cleanup of it.

Shine landing fared better than most in this area, we are very thankful.

The Memorial Day Weekend was a hit!!!

Summer time at Shine Landing does not begin until Memorial Day.

Friday night’s cocktail party begins the weekend.  It is always nice to see a property owner who is not used to the nonsense and fun we have on this weekend.  Tom Siwarski had “leis” from Hawaii for all the ladies.  Catching up on news is a priority.

There was an official “flag raising” at noon on Saturday.  Cheryl and Mac McLaughlin donated new flags for the front of the club house.  They had been damaged by high winds this past winter.

The pool party on Saturday was great and the food even greater.  Eileen and Bill Miles managed to come up with the best ways to have fun through games.  The pig was excellent and the side dishes delicious.

On Sunday anyone with a boat anchored off the beach by the Minnesott Ferry.

If you have never been to one of the summer parties, you are missing a great deal of fun.

Check out our photos below of this year's event and hope to see you all again at Next Year's Event!

·         Here are some photos are of the Bradford Pear trees in our neighborhood!

They are all in bloom at present (mid-March).  The trees mark the lots on all corners so when you drive into the neighborhood you see all the trees in bloom.

The spring time is absolutely gorgeous here, like a parade.  Everything takes a turn showing off.  We have daffodils, yellow and white, blooming now.  We are able to open windows and smell the fresh air and listen to the birds chirping.  Everything is just georgeous!

Ground has been broken for NEW CONSTRUCTION in the neighborhood and promises to be a lovely new home
